Nigeria: Don’t Give Birth To Children You Cannot Cater For, Sheikh Nasir Adam Says

A renown Kano Islamic cleric, Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam has criticised the deep-seated religious misconception which inspire many people to give birth to children beyond the number they could cater for, describing the practice as non-Islamic.

“Every Muslim, someday would account for all the children’s lives under his care before God almighty, Sheikh Adam said, while receiving members of Kano State Child-birth Spacing Interfaith Forum, who were on advocacy visit.

He said, when it comes to the matter of family responsibilities, it is not an issue that should be taken lightly.

Sheikh Adam who is chairman of Juma’at mosque Imams in Kano says, Islam in its entirety discourages harbouring of unproductive children, which are a posing danger to the society, describing child birth spacing as key towards stemming the tide attached to numerous issues.

”There is a huge task ahead of you in sensitizing community of Ulamas and Imams, being the only way to convince people at the grass-root to accept child-birth spacing and address misconceptions,” Sheikh Adam reiterated

Speaking Earlier, The Challenge Initiative (TCI) Representative in Kano, Musa Abdullahi Sufi, said the visit was to inform the chairman on activities of the interfaith Forum in the state and to seek suggestions with regards to approaches on child birth-spacing based on Islamic injunctions.

In a remark, the Interfaith Forum Chairman, Sheik Hafiz Sani Abdullahi, appreciated the warm reception and reiterated commitment of the Forum towards enlighten the public on benefits of child birth spacing.
