COVID-19 Nigeria: 1,460 IDPs From 5 LGs Get Zulum’s Palliatives in Jere

Date:

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s palliative train on Monday, returned to IDP camps in Borno State, North East of the country, where about one thousand,  five hundred persons displaced from five local government areas received food items.
The beneficiaries were reached at Muna Kumburi IDP’s camp along Gamboru Ngala road under Jere local government area.
It would be recalled that on Saturday April 25th, Governor Zulum flagged off the palliatives distribution at another IDP camp – Customs-house, also in Jere to reduce hardships caused by the COVID-19 lockdown.
The palliatives distribution then moved to wards of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC). Over 30,000 households were reached in 13 wards within the last two weeks.
In today’s return to Muna, 896 males and 564 female IDPs from Marte, Konduga, Mafa, Bama and Dikwa local government areas each received an emergency intervention package of food items.
The package contained 10 kg of rice, 10 kg of beans, 10 kg of maize, packets of salt, two cartons of indomie and three litres of cooking oil
Commissioner of Agriculture and Chairman  of the high powered palliative distribution committee, Engr. Bukar Talba explained that the items distributed were part of the contribution by the Victims Support Fund (VSF) to the Borno State Government to ease hardships caused by the lockdown order to prevent the spread of Corona virus in the State.
“Some of the items here are support from the Victims Support Fund to the Borno State Government. I wish to express on behalf of the Government and people of Borno our sincere appreciation for the support” Engr. Talba said.
Engr. Talba added that the committee will complete the remaining two wards in Maiduguri Metropolitan Tuesday 12th May, 2020.
An assistant program officer, Tijjani Alh. Hassan who stood in for the VSF during the exercise said, this support was hastily made to ensure common people are reached during the lockdown.
