By Muh’d Abdulbasit: The Kano State Government says it has cordoned off all the Tsangaya schools where the five Almajiris evacuated to Kaduna tested positive for coronavirus.
The Commissioner for Education and Chairman of the Almajiri Evacuation Committee, Sanusi Kiru stated this while speaking to newsmen in the state on Wednesday.
Recall that the Kaduna State Government had on Monday said that five of the 195 Almajiri children evacuated from Kano to the state had tested positive to the virus.
Kiru maintained that the children went through medical screening before they were repatriated to Kaduna and other states of their origin.
According to the Commissioner, “Before we evacuated those children to their various states of origin, we provided some medical personnel who checked their health status.
“During the preliminary medical checks their temperature was normal. The state government had medical records of all the evacuated Almajiris in addition to knowing which Tsangaya school they came from.
“All suspected children and their teachers will be quarantined while contact tracing of those who had contact with the infected Almajiris had commenced.
“Therefore, we will do everything possible to stem the spread of the virus in the schools and the state in general.
“The measure to cordone off the Tsangaya schools was necessary in order to ensure that the schools were fumigated and disinfected,” the Commissioner said.
The Kano State Government had within the last one week evacuated over 1, 000 Almajiris to Katsina, Jigawa and Kaduna states in an effort to curb the spread of the deadly pandemic in the state.
