A one time Special Assistant and youth enthusiast in Kaduna State ,Northwest Nigeria, Hon. Emmanuel Christopher Magayaki has commiserated with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Arewa Online Publishers Association (AOPA) and the family of late Dominic Uzu, over the death.
Uzu was one time Secretary of the Council and until his demise, General Coordinator of the AOPA.
Magayaki who was at the Council’s Secretariat on a Condolence visit, Wednesday, said,
“Late Uzu was not the kind of person one has to meet twice before you remember him. At the first instance I still have Dominic’s face and all he did that day etched in my mind. So, I was actually out of the country when Hosea called to inform me of what happened. I felt really bad.”
However, he said, death is inevitable and as mortal beings and if there is anything that qualifies one to die is that you are alive. The simple fact that we are alive means we will die one day.
“Today, we remember late Uzu for who he was, for his activism, for what he stood for. He stood for truth and for what is right and his memory would be in our minds for a long time to come. The question for us alive today is; “what are we going to be remembered for?”
“The issue that one has to live 80 or 90 years before one dies is an illusion. Late Uzu went to Zaria that day full of plans and hopes that he was going to come back. I am sure he had things line up to do but they were never meant to be.
“I think the lesson for us is to plan like we will live forever and lived like we will die today; basically that’s how we ought to live. I really sympathize with the family and pray that God will grant his family, the AOPA, NUJ and the entire nation the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.” He said.
Earlier, Elder Joseph Edegbo who said he was wearing two caps to receive him on behalf of the Council Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, who was unavoidably absent, and at the same , currently the Acting General Coordinator of AOPA the position the late Uzu held, thanked Hon. Magayaki for coming to identify with the NUJ family and sharing the grieve over the death of our colleague.
Edegbo who described Honourable Christopher Magayaki as a promising youth enthusiast and politician of no equal, said, he is here today to identify with the NUJ Kaduna State Council and Arewa Online Publishers Association, (AOPA),
He said the death of late Uzu is and still a shock to everyone, added, since the ugly incident on 4th February, 2020, condolences and tributes have been pouring in from different quarters which had never happened in the history of the Council.
He told Magayaki, “You have been with the Council during the time of our joy and today as we grief you are here to condole with us. Since you are now part of NUJ, we promise not to let you down in whatever aspiration you may have in future.
