Indigenes of Borno and Yobe States led by a former Minister, Arc. Ibrahim Bunu were in Maiduguri on Sunday for a meeting with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum over the Boko haram crises .
The Indigenes included elders, members of the National Assembly, former ministers and federal officials.
Speaking, Governor Zulum expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit, noting that Borno and Yobe are two inseparable entities.
“It gives me great pleasure and feel highly honoured to receive you this afternoon. I rather cannot welcome you to Borno State being dignified indigines and some elder statesmen.”
Governor Zulum also acknowledged the zeal and commitment of the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari towards the restoration of lasting peace in Borno.
“We appreciate the special interest of President Muhammadu Buhari in peace, security and post insurgency reconstruction of Borno.” Zulum said.
“The challenges observed in the fight against insurgency are addressed very well with interface with the President during his visit to Maiduguri.” Zulum said.
“Let me also tell you, the military are doing doing very well in the fight against insurgents. There has been a good synergy between the military and the other security operatives and indeed wit the civil population.” Zulum acknowledged.
“We have seen improvement in strategy, resources deployment and consultation since Auno episode. We are confident that by the grace of the Almighty we will win this war and restore peace in our state.” Zulum said.
Zulum also noted that despite the challenges since inception, his administration have embarked on many developmental projects.
“Our focus is fundamentally to shift from meeting humanitarian crisis to that of economic recovery and stabilization. We are aggressively pursuing development, channeling all resources towards projects we think are desirable. I have initiated development projects in all areas with minimum level of peace and security attained, because we cannot wait for the insurgency to completely finish before we start development projects.” Zulum said.
Earlier in his remark Arc. Ibrahim Bunu extended their sympathy to the people and Government of Borno State.
Bunu also commended the efforts of Governor Zulum towards attaining peace and bringing development to the state.
“Your Excellency, we have seen the zeal, the passion and the commitment you have so far exhibited in the service of our people and by extension to the fatherland.” Arc. Bunu said.
