A group, The Nasiriyya of Nigeria has said that Nigeria will not accept a situation where a citizen can not aspire for the Presidency for the main reason that “it is not yet the turn of the aspirant’s zone to present a candidate”.
A statement jointly signed by the President and Secretary of the group , Dr, Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai and Dogara Ibrahim Aliyu described as false reports in the media credited to Gov. Nasir El-rufai of Kaduna State supporting rotation and southern Presidency come 2023.
According to the group, El-rufai has on several occasions made his position on rotational Presidency known and that the Governor had only been reemphasising that leadership is about competency and not zoning.
” In August 10, 2019 in a prologue titled, Defeating a Determined Incumbency- The Nigerian Experience, El-rufai said: Even with our success in the 2015 elections , there is room for improvement, Barriers to Political equality such as our seemingly entrenched though informal rule for zoning candidacies according to regions of origin, need to be deemphasised and ultimately abandoned in favour of an emphasis on qualification, competence and character “, the statement said.
From the foregoing, the group therefore enjoined Nigerians to discountenance the reports which it described as misleading.
The Organisation said it will continue to support good governance , promote and sustain a genuine and democratic values , equality , peaceful coexistence and sustainable national development.
