The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, has asked Governor Ganduje of Kano State , Nortwest Nigeria to tamper justice with mercy .
The Benin Monarch made the plea during a courtesy visit to the Governor accompanied by his host, the Emir of Kano .
Although, Oba Ewuare ll did not give reason for the plea, observers believe that it might not be unconnected with the creation of Emirates in Kano.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar said Oba Ewuare II also used the opportunity to commend the governor over his call for unity among people for the development of the state, adding that, “Your Excellency Sir please even if you are offended please tamper justice with mercy.”
In his remarks, Governor Ganduje assured that Kano is one of the most peaceful states in the country, adding that, in Kano the issue of non-indigeneship was no more. “We have since abolished the issue of non-indigeneship. Whoever is in Kano, so long as he or she is doing lawful things, he is a citizen of Kano, irrespective of religious differences or ethnic nationality,” he said.
On the issue of the inclusion of traditional institutions in national development, he said the state government takes that very seriously, adding that, “National integration is an integral part of our life, as a state. Traditional institutions have an important role to play.
