Ladies of St. Mulumba Catholic Church Kaduna with some of the items donated to IDPs

By Juliana Katung:

Metro Ladies of ST. Mulumba Catholic Church Kaduna, North West Nigeria, on Thursday, 24, July, 2019 donated building materials and fertilizer worth  #500,000 to victims of the Farmer/Fulani crisis at the Maraba Kajuru, Internal Displace Persons Camp, Kajuru Local Government Area .

The items include,11 bundle of Roofing sheets, five packs of nails and 55 bags of fertilizer.

While donating the materials, the President of Metro Ladies of St. Mulumba, Lady Esther David Ambosor said her group which is the Catholic Women Knighthood embarked on the donation exercise in line with one of the core values of the knighthood, service to humanity.

“We have sympathy for human being as women, we carry out those selfless services in order to sustain humanity, we are mothers and anything that happens to any human being affect us” she stressed.

Lady Amboson while urging the officers in charge of the relief materials to ensure they are shared equally among victims of the Kajuru famers/Fulani crisis, noted that some of officers normally become greedy in the cause of sharing.

She called on Kajuru Residents to be peaceful and vigilant at all time for the development of the area.

Meanwhile the chairman, Relief Materials committee, Mr. John Sokoto said almost all IDPs both at the Sabo Tasha and the Maraba Kajuru, have left the camp to their communities.

“We instructed them to go back in order to avoid a situation where the Fulanis would take over their homes and farm lands even though there are no roof over their heads but to secure their homes and farm lands” he noted.

According to him, his committee had been able to share the relief Materials donated by individuals and corperate bodies to the IDPs in which one Bundle and six Pieces of roofing sheet were given to each of the victims to enable them put,  even if it is one room to manage for the mean time.

He added that some of the IDPs after receiving those materials added their own money which enabled them put up two or three rooms and have returned back with entire family.

Only one third of the IDPs who are women and children, he said, have had their husbands returned back to their villages adding that the husbands couldn’t carry them along as they cannot stay in a single room.

The Chairman called on Government, agencies and well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid by donating more building materials to enable those women and children unite with their husband’s and fathers.
