The Managing Director of Kaduna Electric in North West Nigeria, Garba Haruna, has said the Company will create thousands of indirect jobs if the franchising policy being adopted becomes operational.
He disclosed this when he visited the Emir of Zuru, Dr. Mohammed Sani Sami, Sami Gomo II, at his palace in Zuru, Kebbi State.
A statement by the Head, Corporate Communication of Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, quotes the MD as saying that the franchising strategy recently introduced by the company will engender more efficiency in the power distribution business and address the perennial liquidity crisis currently facing the power industry.
Engr. Garba also announced that all stakeholders, including community leaders and the organised private sector would play a significant role in the new scheme, assuring that at the end of the day all parties shall have cause to celebrate.
The Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sami, applauded the new initiatives of the Disco, describing them “as positive development that will help in addressing the problem of youth restiveness and unemployment in the Emirate.
He charged the Management of Kaduna Electric to ensure that pre-paid meters are distributed to all electricity users so as to eliminate estimated billing.
Meanwhile, the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman, Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar has applauded the near excellent power supply situation in Kebbi State and charged the Management of Kaduna Electric to sustain the momentum.
The royal father was receiving the Managing Director/CEO of the DISCO, Engineer Garba Haruna in his Fodio Palace.
Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar called on the Management of the Electricity Distribution Company to ensure that its customers are fairly and humanly treated by the workers and all cases of unfair treatment are investigated and addressed quickly.
The Emir also directed District Heads and title holders in the Emirate to educate their wards and subjects on the importance of timely settlement of their bills, warning that “the current achievement could only be sustained if all stakeholders are alive to their responsibilities”.
Earlier, the Managing Director/CEO of Kaduna Electric, Engr Garba Haruna told the Emir that he was at the palace as part of his four- day working visit to Kebbi and Sokoto States which would enable him meet critical stakeholders in those States.
Engr. Garba further disclosed that the Company recently adopted two significant initiatives aimed at forming partnership with willing indigenous entrepreneurs to provide reliable and affordable electricity to the people.
“We embarked on this duty tour to Kebbi and Sokoto States to enable us meet critical stakeholders and entrepreneurs who may be willing to buy into our new franchising initiative and also create awareness on the forthcoming meters assets provider.
