Scientists Under African Climate Reporters Take Campaigns To Schools

As part of efforts to create awareness among students on issues related to global warming, and its effects on plants and animals, volunteer scientists from the Climate Reporters have embarked on awareness campaigns to schools.

Climate change and other factors associated with environmental degradation and irrational human activities in the forestry have led to extinction of plants and animals.

The Director, African Climate reporters and Head of Department (H.O.D) School of Health Science Makarfi , Kaduna state, North-west  Nigeria, Nurudeen Bello stated this in Kaduna.

He noted that climate change posed a great threat and serious challenge to the existence of human, animals and even the plants in the community.

According to him, Taking the campaign to schools would help toward educating and enlighten youths and teenagers   on dangers associated with climate change, and how it affects health, Economy, environment and every aspect of human life.

“We need to let the whole world know that climate change is not a future problem, it’s a current problem that needs to be addressed and tackled, so as to make the future better”.

The theme of the event is “catch them young and speak to them on climate change and their environment”.

Among the team of volunteer scientists that took part in the campaign are geologists, environmentalists, journalists, climatologists and experts on micro-organism.

Nurudeen added that climate change has caused the spread of so many dangerous diseases and different flies across the planet.

“Many wild life animals are struggling to survive in the forest as a result of climate change, while large number of forest Lizards and Tortoise and big birds have gone extinct and many are on the way due to the increasing threat posed by climate change and human activities in the entire region of Africa.

“Many animals are silently dying without the relevant forestry authorities noticing due to scarcity of water,” he added.

“We need more alternative fuel vehicles, We need clean sources of energy and We need to offer incentives to people to make the changes that need to be made.

Large numbers of Students were sensitized on the importance of tree planting Campaign in schools, Home, streets, football pitches, Gardens and parks.

Responding one of the students of Womenhood School of Health Science Karina, Maimuna Sani lauded the Campaign and thanked the team of the volunteers for a job welldone. She while called for more climatologists in Northern Nigeria to show interest in the campaign to schools.
