Nigeria: Gombe Earmarks 48 Million Naira For Child Spacing in 2019

Chairman of Action Group on Child spacing in Gombe State, North East of the country, Mallam Alhassan Yahaya has said that the state government has budgeted 48 Million Naira in 2019 on child spacing programmes.

In an interview with newsmen in Gombe, Mallam Yahaya said the money would be used for the purchase of Child spacing commodities, Co sumables and training of Health workers who were overseeing the distribution of the commodities at the Primary Health Care centres across the states.

Yahaya said apart from the N48 million they were still expecting some funds from the Save One Million lives because they have been supporting the programme in the state.

The Chairman said currently, the Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) of Gombe is 18 per cent and based on Gombe state strategic plan, they were expected to reach 22 per cent by the year 2022.

He said from all indications, the state target is achievable going by the level of acceptability by individuals in the state.

He called on the public to subscribe to Child Spacing Commodities which is free in public hospitals.

According to him, several researches conducted, reveal that child spacing can reduce the rate of maternal mortality by 40 per cent.
