The Catholic Women Organisation of Nigeria (CWO), Diocese of Jalingo, on Tuesday, donated some relief materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Taraba State, North East of the country.
The Leader of the organisation, who presided over the donation at the Nukkai Primary School, Jalingo, Mrs Emelynda Fai called on the Federal Government to end the killings across the country.
Fai said that the donation was part of the organisation’s activities marking the celebration of the “Feast of the Assumption of Mary’’ which took place on Sept. 16.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items included foodstuffs, clothings, mats, mosquito nets among others.
Fai, who decried the senseless killings across the country, encouraged the IDPs not to lose faith, but look up to God “the author and finisher of our faith’’.
She advised the IDPs to be consistent in prayers in the midst of affliction.
Fai, however, urged the government to take seriously the need to protect human lives and property, adding that everyone would give account of his or her actions to God.
“Government has all it takes to stop the killings and the ongoing destructions in the country.
“The organisation is imploring the government to redouble its efforts to end the menace.
“I want to also encourage all our dear women to vote in responsible men of integrity, who will keep to the oath of office and value human lives.
“We must, therefore, take active role in politics and not allowing fake and adulterated people, who will bring pains and anguish to our people,” she said.
The women leader also assured the IDPs that God would not forsake or forget them in their entire endeavour.
Rev. Fr. Sunday Muke, who received the relief materials on behalf of the IDPs, thanked the organisation for its gesture and prayed God to bless and reward it.
Muke urged the women to continue to pray for the peace, unity and development of the country.
