A Non-governmental organisation, West African Network for Peace Building Nigeria has begun a three day training of 40 monitors and Analysts on gender sensitive, early warning and response strategies within the context of Gombe State peace Architecture.
The training was organised under the UN Women programme of promoting women’s engagement in peace and security in Northern Nigeria and funded by the European Union.
The Program Manager of the NGO, Osariemen Edobor explained that the essence of the workshop was to help the communities develop conflict early warning indicators that are peculiar to the State, and also reflect the peace and security dynamics of the area.
When this was done, he said, people would now be conversant with the conflict dynamics in the state and able to monitor the process and also make contributions towards preventing violent conflict before it escalates.
“what we are doing is, also leading to consolidate the peace architecture of the State, that is very inclusive in nature, taking on board the contribution of women, the youth group and bringing all the peace efforts under one umbrella, so that if they monitor the conflict at a level, they are able to Analyze the data they have collected and they can know where to take it through a peace council, which we hope is going to be housed by the traditional rulers, so that they can now respond to those conflicts and be able to prevent conflict and where they cannot prevent, they are able to prepare the citizens for how they able to take action to also reduce their vulnerability to such threats,” she said.
