Zamfara, Northwest Nigeria Worst Hit By Banditry – Chief of Air Staff

Zamfara State, Northwest is the worst hit by activities of bandits and cattle rustlers in the country, says the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar.

Sadique made the disclosure on Wednesday, in Gusau, Zamfara state at the commissioning of two helipads constructed at the state headquarters of the 207 Quick Response Group of the Nigeria Air Force.

He said the quick response group which was established in November, 2016, was part of federal government efforts in counter terrorism and that the group was receiving further boost with the establishment of the helipads.

The Chief of Air Staff who was represented by Air Vice-Marshall Ismaila Kaita noted that “although there are serious concerns in the North Central states especially in Benue and Taraba, but the challenges in Zamfara are more serious.

“The helipads has brought improvements in air power against criminal hide outs and l want to advice all criminal elements to quickly surrender or face the terrible consequences,” he said.

Sadique commended other security bodies in the state as well as the state government over their cooperation in the fight against terror groups.

In his speech, Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar said that state government was now partnering with all stakeholders to complement efforts of the security bodies in the fight against the criminal elements in the state.

Yari who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government(SSG), Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi commended effort of the Federal government in tackling security issues in the state.

The Governor also assured maximum security to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state as the government was doing all its best to end the security challenges bordering the state.

He said as part of the efforts government had introduced community base security initiative in terms of intelligence gathering and sharing.

“This would complement the efforts of army and other security agencies in the fight against insurgents”, he said.
