District Head of the newly constituted Kufana District in Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, Titus Dauda, has assumed office with a vow to work for the development of the District.
“We shall ensure development in the land by engaging every good innovation that will promote agricultural practices, youth empowerment, environmental and maternal health, among others,” Mr. Dauda told a gathering of people at a reception held in the District to mark the occasion.
Mr. Dauda who was installed on Saturday, said his emergence to head the District was designed by God, following a recommendation by the paramount ruler of the Adara people, ‘Agwom Adara’, Dr. Maiwada Galadima, to the state government.
Speaking at a reception, the new District Head said, “Today we are here to celebrate the outcome of government decision to foster unity among our people.
“As we embark on this journey, I want to assure our people that we shall run an open-door policy; one that will accommodate all.
“We shall continue to work hard to promote a peaceful and secured environment, one that will present an atmosphere for development, irrespective of where a person is coming from.
“I want to call on all sons and daughters of the district to come forward with useful ideas in our collective efforts towards moving the district forward,” he told the gathering.
Earlier in a speech, Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Dauda Ida, stressed the need for the people to work hard to ensure the success of the newly reconstituted District.
He described the new District Head as a philanthropist, who had been in the business of helping people in life, “we have seen him do good, so we were not surprised when he was chosen to lead our people,” Mr. Ida said.
In June 2017, Kaduna State government announced the dissolution of all districts and village units created in the state from 2001. This according to it was to cut down the cost of administration on government – the sole financier of the structure.
“The state has therefore reverted to the 77 districts and 1,429 village units that existed prior to 2001,” Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ja’afaru Sani told Journalists in Kaduna.
According to him, the restructuring was done in consultation with the State Council of Chiefs.
The creation of 313 more districts from 2001 had raised the number of district heads to 390, which alongside other personnel in the district office, added more than 2700 employees to the payroll of Local Government Councils.
The newly reconstituted Kufana District, under Mr Dauda, is a merger of 12 Districts.
