Ten additional communities have been sacked by bandits at Mada town in the Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara, the latest in the persistent banditry in Nigeria’s northwest.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who visited the town on Friday learnt that one person was killed during the incident, which took place on June 6.

No fewer than 200 bandits were said to have descended on the communities, rustling cows and other animals and forcing villagers to flee.

The villages were named as Fura Girke, Majira, Kanawa, Yargeba, Takoka, Bargaja, Bundungel, Bantsa, Unguwar Matanda and Makera.

Speaking with reporters at Mada after visiting the displaced people, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara, Malam Ibrahim Wakkala, appealed to the Federal Government to come to the rescue.

He expressed his dismay on the way the bandits rendered residents of the communities, particularly women and children homeless.

Wakkala said that a committee had been set up by the State Government, to ascertain the level of damage caused by the bandits.

He pleaded with security agencies in the state to intensify efforts in tackling the activities of the bandits. (NAN)
