Unified Nigerian Youth Forum, UNYF, has appealed to Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari to increase the numbers of the approved intake of the Nigerian Police force recruitment exercise from the approved 6,000 to 15,000 personnel.

The forum in a statement through its President, Abdulsalam Muhammed Kazeem, said that with over 133,000 applicants that applied for the force shows the willingness of Nigerians to serve their country if given the chance.

The statement explained, “As a forum saddle with the responsibility of uniting Nigerian youths in respective of age, tribe, region and ethnicity, we passionately appeal to Mr. President to used his good office (veto power) to increase the numbers of the approved  intake of the Nigerian Police force recruitment exercise from the earlier approved 6000 personnel to 15,000 personnel, considering the fact that over 133,000 applied for the Job, the numbers of applicant further shows the willingness of Nigerians to served their country if given the needed opportunity.

“The Nigerian police force deserved more personnel and funding to enable them effectively implement all the transformational agenda of the current Inspector General of Police and the present administration of President Mohammadu Buhari.

“We all are not un-aware of the recent unified data base that is, the integrated payroll and personal information system, lPPIS, which clearly shows that out of the less than 400, 000 personnel of the entire Nigerian Police Force, we have over 70,000 ghost workers, the said number is far below the required standard or recommendation of the united nation benchmark of one police officer to 400 people.

“If we are to go by that, it means the current police force needs to recruit at least 158,000 additional personnel to approximately police over One hundred and eighty million (180,000,000) Nigerians.

“Despite shortfall in workforce in terms of personnel and funding, the current Inspector General of Police and his team has ensured effective policing in the entire country, the professionalism, commitment and loyalty to the service by all men and women of the force should be appreciated by all and sundry despite low motivation.

“The Nigerian police force under the leadership of  Ibrahim Idris has recorded a lot of successes ranging from the recent Offa bank robbery, arrest of Fulani bandit in Zamfara, Kaduna, Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba axis, arrest of Evans the most Notorious Kidnaper and other similar cases in other part of the country.

“Politics and sentiment aside, we as a forum pass a vote of confidence on the IGP and his entire team and we equally appeal to President Mohammadu Buhari to give the Nigerian Police Force the needed corporation, assistance and the resources needed to help sanitise our country from our common enemy.”

The forum noted that the current ongoing recruitment exercise by the Nigerian police force should be used to further create employment that could equally increase the rate of intelligence gathering and boost/improved the country security architecture.

The forum added that to achieve intelligence gathering in the country priority should be given to  qualified ones among the applicants.

“The current ongoing recruitment exercise by the Nigerian police force should be used to further create employment and increase the rate of intelligence gathering and boost/improved the country security architecture.

“The present administration has tried in area of security and should be appreciated by all progressive citizens”. the statement said
