As part of activities marking the 2018 Children’s Day, Non Governmental organization, Women 4 Women, in Kaduna, northwest Nigeria has carried out free medical tests and food distribution to over 300 less privileged children and Internally Displaced Persons .
Chairperson of the NGO, Maryam Abubakar, said the reason for organizing the free medical test was to assist the less privileged children with some free medical diagnoses to help them with treatment where necessary.
According to the her, there was need to see children of the less privileged living happily like any other child in the world.
She said most of the tests carried out showed that majority of the children residing at the destitute homes along Kano road, Kaduna ,the city centre, were tested positive with malaria fever due to the poor environment in which they are living.
She pointed out that the same problems applied to the Internally Displaced Persons children, stressing that they are also facing many health hazards in the community.
Some of the drugs shared were Syrup Paracetamol, Syrup Arcthmeter, Tab Archthmeter, Tabs Paracetamol, among others.
She appealed to NGO/CSO and government to be remembering the less privileged on special days like this by giving them the needed assistance.
Responding on behalf of the association of persons with disability in the state, Rilwanu Abdullahi, noted that today was the first time an NGO came to celebrate Children’s Day with the children.
He added that no one cares to come and see the daily challenges, destitute children in Nigeria are facing, adding that “this is why they don’t come to celebrate this Day with the children “, he said.
Aisha Musa, a refugee from Gamborin Gala, Borno State, appealed to wealthy individuals, government, Child network organizations, community leaders and politicians to be celebrating the day with the less privileged and refugee children.
She expressed dismay with the attitude of some wealthy individuals and government for not showing any concern on the lives of destitute children and IDPs in the state.
