2018 Democracy Day – Buhari Administration Presents 3-Year Score-Card

The Buhari led Administration says it has kept its social contract with the Nigerian people by delivering its campaign promises.

Towards this, the Administration is putting the nation on the path of sustainable growth and development.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed made the assertion in Lagos at a news conference to roll out the strides of the Administration  to mark its 3rd year in office.

The minister who spoke on various sectors of the economy listed Power, agriculture, health and solid mineral as well as revenue generation which he said had recorded tremendous growth.

According to the Minister, the nation’s electricity generation is now 7,000 mega watts from the 2,690 inherited from the previous Administration.

The nation, the Minister said,  attained self sufficiency in agriculture, especially, in rice production which had led to a drastic reduction in the country’s import bill. He added that the number of rice farmers has also grown from five million to eleven million within the period under review.

Lai Mohammed stated that the economy was back on growth after the 2016 -2017 recession pointing out that the country’s external reserve now stood at $48 bn doubling what was met in 2015 on assumption in office.

He said the Administration blocked leakages in government spending through the introduction of Treasury Singles Account and Whistle Blowers policy.

This, he said, had made MDAs remitting more money to federation account thereby swollen up the Treasury.

Lai Mohammed said the Buhari Administration within the period under review , extended more than 1.9 trillion Naira to state governments to enable them meet their salary and pension obligations through Paris  club refund and infrastructure loans.

In the area of health, the minister said  Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority in March invested $10 million to establish a world class cancer treatment centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, $5 million at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia Modern Diagnostic centre.

All, he said, will be completed at the end of 2018.

On security, the Minister said normalcy has been restored in the North East region of the  country pointing out that schools and air transport have resumed while roads reopened and communities back to their homes.

He stated that several efforts were being made by the Administration to contain the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the North Central states of the country as well as the issues of cattle rustlers, kidnapping among others in Zamfara and Taraba .

Apart from the deployment of special forces and establishment of military formations in those affected areas, the minister said, there were other successful military operations across the country to battle different security situations.

From the foregoing, Lai Mohammed said, “where many saw challenges, we saw opportunities, where many saw impossibilities, we saw possibilities

“We surmounted every Opposition on our path to delivering our promises to Nigerians. While naysayers pretended to be blind to our achievements. Nigerians who are being positively impacted by the good works of President Buhari applaud and appreciate our efforts ,from the feedback we are getting”, he said.

The minister who reaffirmed that the nation was taking back control of the economy and making it productive, assured Nigerians that the Administration was not only providing enabling environment but would continue to deliver on its campaign promises.
