Kaduna State House of Assembly member, representing Kagarko constituency in northern Nigeria, Nuhu Machu Goro Shadalafiya, has saud that the All Progressives Congress,(APC) won Kagarko local government area in the recent concluded local government elections due to development projects carried out by the state governor in the area.
According to him, the election was a clear evidence of compensation for good work and extensive projects execution in Kagarko within the 3 years of his party’s leadership.
Shadalafiya, the Chairman, House Committee on Information said it was obvious that the main opposition party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, was not prepared for the local government election because they never believed that Governor Nasir El-Rufai would allow a free and fair election.
According to the lawmaker, PDP was used to rigging and manipulation of results and so they were caught “napping”
”APC believed that the ruling party, APC was going to adopt the same rigging system that characterised the PDP administration when they were in power.
“But we surprised them and demonstrated that we are not only a progressive party, but also committed to instituting a sustainable electoral process devoid of rigging and manipulations. And this is what we proved to Kaduna citizens and electorate during the local government election.”
Speaking on the Kagarko local government election, Shadalafiya who maintained that APC won the election simply because performance and quality service delivery stated, “If the APC and Governor Nasir El-Rufai led administration between June 2015 and December 2017 raked 5,727,896 ,789,91 billion Naira into Kagarko local government area.”
While noting that the figure was just for contracts awarded in the areas of education, health, water and sanitation as well as road infrastructure, he gave assurance that more of such projects would be carried out by the state government.
“For your information, the contracts awarded from 2015 to 2017 focused on investment in education, health and road infrastructure with the aim of achieving social indicators of reduction in incidences of preventable disease especially under 5 mortality and safe delivery for pregnant women, improvement in access and quality of education and the opening up of communities through investments in rural, township and state turns roads to connect Kagarko local government to the markets.
“How do people expect a party that governed the state for over 16 years without tangible development in Kagarko win a party that did all these projects within 3 years of steering the affairs of Kaduna,” he emphasised.
