Egyptian security forces on Wednesday arrested a prominent blogger and activist critical of the government from his house, a human rights group said.
The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) said a police force raided the house of Wael Abbas’ family at dawn without a warrant or giving any reason.
“They took Abbas blindfolded to unknown whereabouts after they seized computers, phones, books and other things from the house,’’ it added in a statement.
Gamal Eid, Abbas’ lawyer and the founder of ANHRI, said in a tweet that he has a list of items seized from the blogger’s house.
However no comment has been made by the authorities.
Hundreds of secular and Islamist opposition figures have been arrested since 2013 when President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, a former general, overthrow the country’s first democratically elected president Mohammed Morsi. (dpa/NAN)
