The Independent National Electoral Commission in Bayelsa State is to work closely with the State Police Command, South- South of the country towards ensuring a safe environment for the conduct of hitch free elections.
The new Resident Electoral Commissioner in the State, Cyril Omoregbe gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Police Command in Yenogoa.
Omoregbe promised to make the visit regular inview of the critical role police play in the conduct of elections.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, CP, Don Awuna Anipr said the commission and the Police were critical partners in the sustenance of democracy, hence the need for both to work together for safety in the State for elections.
CP Don Awuna was of the view that while INEC midwifes democracy, the Police processes and give credibility to electoral process by providing security.
The Commissioner of Police then called on the people to shun any act of violence in whatever form warning that any infraction of the law would be dealt with decisively by the Police.

Ø Democracy can be sustained through Police, INEC partnership
The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State, CP Don Awunah Anipr, fsi today hosted the new Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa State, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe alongside other senior staff of the Commission at his office.
- The Resident Electoral Commissioner remarked that being newly posted to Bayelsa State as the INEC helmsman; he deemed it necessary to visit the Commissioner of Police who is also the Chairman of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in the State. He promised to work closely with the Bayelsa State Police Command assuring the CP of regular visits to his office in future.
- Responding, CP Don Awunah welcomed the Resident Electoral Commissioner to Bayelsa State, stating that the Police and the Independent National Electoral Commission are critical partners in the sustenance of democracy by ensuring safety in the State for the conduct of free, fair and credible elections. He added that while INEC midwifes democracy, the Police processes and gives credibility to electoral process through the provision of security.
- The Command wishes to call on all Bayelsans to shun any act of electoral violence in whatever form as any infraction of the law will be dealt with decisively by the Police.
