The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional 200 police personnel to Birnin-Gwari in Kaduna State, northern Nigeria to curb the security challenges in the area .
Speaking during a Town Hall meeting with stakeholders in Birnin-Gwari, while on visit to ascertain the security situation, IGP Idris said the officers would work with those on ground and other security personnel in order to give the bandits a run for their money.
The IGP in the company of the General Officer of 1Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Mohammed Mohammed and Kaduna state Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar explained that ten patrol vehicles would be provided along Funtua Birnin-Gwari road for efficient and effective patrol.
IGP Idris informed the gathering that an Area Command would be established in Birnin-Gwari with two additional Divisions as measures being put in place to curb criminal activities in the area.
IGP Ibrahim Idris called for synergy between the security agencies deployed to the area and the community for better understanding on how to bring criminality in the area to the bearest minimum.
“The police can only succeed with your support, you live here and we will want you to provide information that will help them discharge their duty,” he explained.
Earlier, the Emir of Birnin-Gwari, Jubrin Zubairu Mai Gwari 11 had called on the IGP to help recover the old Birnin-Gwari town from the bandits.
According to him, the town was a historical site that must not be left in the hands of the bandits.
Similarly, the women leader of the area, Aisha Adamu, expressed dismay over the raping of women by criminals in the area and urged the IGP to come to their rescue.
