Residents of Ukwu-Oji Quarters in Ogwashi-Ukwu Town in Delta State, South-South Nigeria have cried out against estimated electricity bills being served on them.
In a statement made available to AFRICA PRIME NEWS, on Friday the residents said “we hardly see power supply to use, yet the Benin Electricity Distribution Company keep bringing estimated bills of Power supply that we did not consume and expecting us to pay for them”
The residents therefore appealed to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Consumer Protection Council to come to their aid.
“We have brought to their attention severally that the transformer that powers the area is faulty because it always explodes every time they supply power.
“We have cause to believe that the transformer is overloaded because it is an old transformer that was carrying a few houses before new houses started springing up in the area and we suggested that BEDC gets additional transformer for the area but all appeals fell on deaf ears.
“We are appealing that you intervene because we cannot continue paying for estimated bills for power supply not consumed. We are writing to notify you of these, otherwise we would have mobilized the youths to protest against these wickedness”.
The statement which was signed by:
Youth, Political and Developmental Rights Activist & Coordinator
Committee For The Defence of Human Rights(CDHR),
Aniocha South Local Govt Area.
Feyisetan Akeeb Kareem further warned that the residents can not continue to pay for darkness.
