Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has stressed the need for the involvement of traditional rulers as an alternative method of ending the recurring killings and destructions in the North.

Managing Director of the Foundation,  Shettima Ali said in an interview with news men on Wednesday in Kaduna, Northwest of the country that the Board of Trustees of the foundation and its Advisory Council have agreed to visit the affected states to encourage the traditional rulers to get more involved in solving the crisis.

He noted with sadness that the issue of insecurity particularly in the North Central have become intractable. “We are so much concerned and something has to be done urgently to nip the problem in the bud.

“There is a need to involve traditional rulers to come in and adopt other dispute resolution methods rather than the usual involvement of the military to get over this problem.

“We will visit the traditional rulers in the affected areas particularly Benue to take up the responsibility.’’

Ali also said that the foundation has commenced in-depth study of the problem of education in the 19 northern states with a view to coming up with various strategies to tackle them.

“In our last meeting, a decision was taken that the foundation should undertake intensive research in the sector to identify the real problems across the 19 northern states and develop implementation strategies.

“We are going to develop implementation strategies and take it to the governors and perhaps hold stakeholders meeting and agree on steps to take.’’
