Head office of Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (SIECOM) in northern Nigeria, has been gutted by fire. This is coming less than a month to local government elections in the state.
Reports say, the fire started at about 10 a.m. Local time from the top floor of the building, affecting all offices on the floor, located along Sokoto Road.
Fire fighters arrived the scene around 11 a.m. to put out the inferno.
Addressing journalists, chairperson of the commission, Saratu Binta Dikko-Audu, said, “the fire affected all the offices. On the 2nd floor – including the offices of the chairman, the legal department, finance department and the conference room.
“No life was lost, and there were no injuries recorded.
“At the time the fire started, the members of the Commission were in an emergency meeting in the Chairman’s Office.”
Mrs. Dikko-Audu said, the Police and Fire Service have commenced investigation into “the immediate remote causes of the fire.”
