African Qualifiers: Handball Coaches Confident Of Teams’ Chances

The Head Coaches of the Nigeria’s National U-18 and U-20 Handball teams, Friday expressed confidence in the teams’ chances ahead of the African qualifiers for the International Handball Federation competition scheduled to hold in Niger Republic, next week.

The Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) Africa Zone III (3) event in Niamey, Niger has now been rescheduled from its original date of March 25 to March 30 to April 9 to April 14.

Emeka Joseph, for the U-18, and Obi Fedelix, for the U-20, made their positions known in interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.

Joseph said that the U-18 players were perfecting their tactics in order to have a successful tournament.

“I have confidence in these players that they can come out tops in these African qualifiers.

“We have a good team here because we carefully selected them during their camping, in other to have a good outing in the qualifiers.

“Currently, the team is good to go as you can see that we are perfecting all our throws and tactics, so as to have a successful outing in the tournament.

“You can see that a new synergy exists among the players and they are all thirsty for success, with the commitment and determination they have exhibited in training.’’

On his part, the U-20 Coach, Fedelix, told NAN that the selection was based on merit.

He said that 28 players each were invited to camp for the U-18 and U-20 teams, out of which 14 players were selected for each category.

NAN reports that the Handball Federation has opened camping for the U-18 and U-20 players, ahead of the African qualifiers for the International Handball Federation competition in Kaduna.

NAN also reports that the camp commenced from March 5 to April 6, at the Murtala Muhammed Square and the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.

Nigeria is pitched in Zone 3 of the CAHB qualifiers alongside Ghana, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Togo, Benin Republic and hosts, Niger Republic.
