General Officer Commanding, One Mechanised Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Mohammed Mohammed, has said that the Nigerian Army will not be detered in continuing to defend the territorial integrity of the country.
Speaking at the Interfaith burial service of 11 soldiers killed on the 20th of March 2018 by bandits along Birnin Gwari road, Kaduna State in northern Nigeria, the GOC said the Nigerian Army would in spite of challenges, ensure the country’s corporate existence.
“We will continue to ensure the peace of this country. We will continue from where those killed stop.
“They came to the profession a year ago, they came to give their service to the nation. They have just finished their six months recruitment training and unfortunately, some of them have not even gone home for their family members to see them when their lives were cut short by bandits.
“Though they were cut short, the blood they shed is not not in vain for they have paid the supreme prize of service to the nation.”
He enjoined young Nigerians not to loose hope in joining the Army but reminded them that everybody has a way that he or she would return to the creator.
Governor Nasiru El-Rufai, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Lawal Abbas, assured that the state government would not relent in supporting the activities of security agencies and that the government would ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book.
The state government gave N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira to each of the 11 deceased families.
Franklin Owochuku, an elder brother to late Owochuku Christian who was in tears said he had always supported the late younger brother in his education and anything he intended to do.
Other families of the departed soldiers who burst into tears when the bodies of their loved ones were laid to mother earth, prayed the reposed souls of the soldiers.
Names of the soldiers released by the military are, Pte Named Olabode from Ogun State, Pte Bamidele Adekunle from Ogun State, Pte Adamu Mohammed from Bauchi State and Pte Lamar’s Ahmed from Jigawa State.
Others are, Pte Suleiman Mubarack from Plateau State, Pte Bashir Sani from Katsina State, Pte Usman Abubakar from Gombe State and Pte Nafiu Iliyasu from Jigawa State.
The rest are Pte Sefiyanu Ahmed from Jigawa State and Pte Alhassan Ibrahim from Kaduna State.
