The Northern Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison Lebogang Motlhaping will this week join law enforcement operations in the province ahead of the Easter period to encourage responsible road usage by motorists.

Easter time is a critical period that is characterised by high traffic volumes and remains high on the province’s agenda for highly intensified operations to work towards ensuring everyone’s safety on the roads.

During the Easter period, it is expected that travellers will criss-cross the country and the province in numbers for various reasons such as pilgrimages, festivals and vacations.

MEC Motlhaping will join traffic officers and law enforcement agencies at traffic law enforcement operations.

He indicated that despite the intensified operations that will unfold in the province, the responsibility still lies on all road users to be responsible road users.

He said it is critical that motorists take cognisance of the rules of the road and consider other road users.

MEC Motlhaping added that for everyone to Arrive Alive, all need to remember that “Road Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility”.

“We have to take personal responsibility for our own safety, our passengers, pedestrians and all other road users especially our children. We should love enough to buckle up on all journeys,” said MEC Motlhaping.

MEC Motlhaping said it is critical for people to plan ahead for all their journeys and remember to take cognisance of safety tips at all times.

Motorists are advised to remember the following tips when travelling:

-Check the road worthiness of your vehicle before embarking on any journey,

-Plan your trips and rest every 2hours,

-Be patient and drive within the speed limit,

-Do not drive fatigued or drink and drive,

-Be mindful of pedestrians and also our traffic officials embarking on Law Enforcement Operations to ensure everyone’s safety on the roads.
