A Non-Governmental Organization, Arewa Young Initiative has commenced a drug free Campaign in Gombe state,  northeast of the Country to disabuse minds of the youth, particularly, in Northern Nigeria .

The Coordinator of the campaign, Ibrahim Yusuf told newsmen shortly after a rally in Gombe on Thursday,  that the campaign was organized in Collaboration with another NGO,Big Church Foundation to sensitize Youth on drug abuse across the country.

“The Northern region cannot be properly positioned for the next level leadership given the precedence of leadership excellence set by our founding fathers without addressing drug abuse syndrome both as emergency and as a last resort considering the number of future leaders that are trapped in this menace.

“Academic result suffers, and even worse, drugs undermine health and destroy young lives. The tremendous endowment of the northern  region in terms of human and economic resources, as well as the dignity, history and the glory of the region are being alarmingly  threatened by the drug abuse monsters  in not only the north but also Nigeria as a whole”.

He said the rally was conducted to set the tone and establish the tempo on the ongoing zonal flag off ceremonies in the  6 Geo-political zones of  the country at least with 1000 youths to be mobilized  for  the rally.

The Coordinator appealed to the Federal, State and local governments to rise up to the alarming rate of drug abuse in the country with a view for youth  taking their destinies in their hands by staying away from drug abuse.

Yusuf applauded the Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III and other stakeholders for  identifying with the campaign .
