Malam Shehu Usman
Permanent Secretary, Kaduna State Ministry of Health and Human Services, Malam Shehu Usman Muhammad

By Joseph Edegbo

Kaduna (Nigeria)- The newly appointed Permanent Secretary in the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, Shehu Muhammad has said that he will continue to give glory to God for being part of positive developments both outside and inside government.

“Some have the brain to serve but no opportunity, while others have opportunity but no brain,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary made the remarks when members of an advocacy group, Family Health Advocates in Nigeria Initiative, FHANI paid him a courtesy visit to felicitate with him over his appointment.

Shehu Muhammad who was the Chairman of the advocacy group until his recent appointment, said he was elated and humbled by the visit.

He commended members of FHANI for being in the forefront of championing the cause of family

health activities in Kaduna State and encouraged them to continue setting the pace, saying ” the sky is your limit”.

The Permanent Secretary called for their guidance, prayers and support adding that he would continue to identify with the members as one family.

Shehu Muhammad used the opportunity to inform the advocacy group that the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai was doing his possible best to renovate the 255 Primary Health Centres across the State.

The project, he explained, was so dear to the Governor, hence his resolve to settle the contractors to ensure quick completion, notwithstanding the huge liability inherited by the government.

Earlier, the Acting Secretary of FHANI, Iliya Kure had told the Permanent Secretary that members of the advocacy group were there to felicitate with him over the appointment.

He said the appointment which was a pride to the members did not come as a surprise because of “Mallam’s” vast experience, commitment and exemplary conduct, coupled with humility.

Kure also noted with delight that it was the same advocacy group that produced a Commissioner last year and again producing a permanent Secretary, describing the development as an attestation that FHANI is a formidable group made up of talented and capable human resources.

The acting Secretary therefore urged the Permanent Secretary to bring his wealth of experience from the civil society and blend with that of the civil service to bear on the Administration for the wellbeing of the people.

He used the opportunity to brief the Permanent Secretary, the outcome of the recent 5 – day training workshop in Abuja, organised for FHANI by Pathfinder International.
