Commonwealth Committed To Good Governance, Poverty Eradication In Nigeria, Says Executive Secretary

Abuja (Nigeria) – Executive Secretary, Commonwealth Society of Nigeria, Ambassador Musa Abubakar Abutu has assured Nigerians of the organisation’s commitment to Poverty Eradication and good Governance in Nigeria.

The Chief Scribe also urged Nigerians to hold tight to their norms and values that make them a strong nation,

Amb. Abutu, who gave the charge in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on the commemoration of the 2018 Commonwealth Day celebration, stated that values and norms produce unity, peace and progress in any nation.

He also urged them to embrace peace regardless of their socio-political, religious and ethnic affiliations, stressing that Nigerians need to see one another as one, as God made us from creation.

Abutu, while addressing members of the Commonwealth in Nigeria and others on the importance of the celebration, applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his doggedness and determination to ensure that our dreams as a nation become realizable.,

“Mr. President, we thank you for uniting all African countries together to form a strong force in the comity of nations. Thank you for your unrelenting efforts in rallying round other world leaders to make the world a better place for us to live”

Executive Secretary said the theme of this year’s commonwealth Day, “Towards a Common Future “was timely, as it is geared towards exploring how commonwealth can address global challenges and work to create a better future for all citizens through sub-themes on sustainability, safety, prosperity and fairness in line with the theme of the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting, CHOGM in London.

“It is therefore at this junction that I bring great tidings from the commonwealth society, London on the commemoration of the 2018 commonwealth day celebration here in Nigeria”

“The commonwealth hereby reiterates its resolve to ensure the achievement of Nigeria’s expectation with regards to sound values, good governance, mass literacy, poverty eradication, sustainable economic growth, human rights among others are achieved” he said.

Delivering a lecture at the event, former Aso Chaplain, Rev. Yusuf Obaje urged Nigerians to return to God, asserting that our banners of peace and unity have been soaked with blood, hence the need for total repentance for forgiveness.

Prof. Obaje emphasized that the blood of the slains are crying out, stating that Nigerians need unconditional repentance for God to bring peace and unity to the country.

‘Nigerians have forsaking God and if we do not return to God, we should stop blaming President Muhammadu Buhari and other political leaders. It is a national issue that we must address collectively. We need to forgive one another” he warned.
