Abuja (Nigeria)- Youths in Durumi, Galuwyi and Shere communities of Bwari in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory have lauded the Administration for the ongoing construction of an 11km major access road traversing these communities.

Residents noted that the project which is the first of its kind since the creation of the Federal Capital Territory would definitely  improve the living standards of the people.

Speaking to newsmen, a prominent youth leader in the area, Zaka Nehemiah  said “With immense gratitude, let me use this opportunity to register my heart-felt gratitude and sincere appreciation to FCT Minister Muhammad Bello Musa and the Executive Chairman of Bwari, Musa Diko for their positive transformation of Durumi, Galuwyi and Shere Road.

“Durumi, Galuwyi and Shere communities are in Bwari Area council located about 10km away from City centre and Presidential Villa.

“…Over the years, these communities had suffered long period of government neglect. The presence of government was not felt at all as the age long problems of lack of good road, water, electricity, and health facilities among other basic social amenities.

“People of the land have on their own been engaging in community self-help projects.”

The Durumi (not the city Durumi), Shere and Galuwyi road and public utilities projects are fait accompli to the pledge of the FCT Minister to shift focus to the provision of rural infrastructure and utilities in the next half of his tenure.

In an interview with newsmen following the development, the Coordinator, Satellite Town Development Department,  Isyaku Yamawo, said the construction of the road measuring over 11km, including drainages is pursuant to the determination of the FCT Administration to decongest the city, by opening up that axis of the FCT for estate development.

Other benefits envisaged in the project, the Coordinator said, include to make Shere-Galuwy resettlement estate habitable as well as to improve the economy of the rural dwellers by providing easy access for the transportation of agricultural raw materials to the city.

Isyaku Yamawo indicated that the Administration is already providing electricity for the resettlement town and also noted that the road would link these communities to Bwari, Kawu and Kaduna as well as Mpape and Maitama.

According to him , the Minister’s programme of redirecting focus to rural communities is yielding fruits.
