…To Use Nigerian Model in Setting Up Pilgrims Commission in Ghana
By Peter Usman
Abuja (Nigerian) – A Seven member Ghanaian delegation has concluded a three day visit to Nigeria to understudy the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission’s strategic operations .
Addressing newsmen at the end of the visit to the Headquarters of Nigerian Pilgrims Commission, the leader of the delegation and Minister of Religious and Chieftaincy Affairs, Samuel Kofi Dzamesi said the visit was highly rewarding.
The Ghanaian Minister lauded the commission for accepting their request, adding that they were able to solve most of the challenges facing them in that regard.
Dzamesi stated that the NCPC has made history in Africa, maintaining that Nigeria is the only country in Africa that has been able to perfect pilgrimage by setting up pilgrims’ commissions at both national and state levels.
“We have understudied you and we have learnt so many things, when we get back to Ghana, we will use your model as our basic model to start up pilgrimage for our country.
“Though we will not be able to do it on our own, from time to time, we will invite you over to put us through when we encounter challenges. Africa needs to see within the continent in order to strengthen unity and succeed,” he said.
The Executive Secretary, NCPC, Rev Tor Uja earlier in his speech lauded the delegation for finding NCPC worthy to understudy.
He called on African leaders to give greater attention to the younger generation, invest, and inculcate in them the understanding of what Africa stands for.
He added, “Nigeria has a specific pilgrimage for youth which comes up in July. The objective is not just to visit holy sites for prayers but to improve skills acquisition, exposure to agriculture in Israel with the desire to return, be more lucrative and develop something better for Africa.
During the working visit ,the delegation had series of technical sections with NCPC team and strategic stakeholders on the rudiments of pilgrimaging so that they could replicate the model with modifications to fit their peculiarity.
