Gombe (Nigeria) – The Nigerian Army Institute of Technology and Environmental Studies (NAITES) Biu Borno State, northeast of the country has matriculated 1,517 students for the 2017/2018 academic session.
The students were those of National and Higher National Diploma of the Schools of Management and Social Science, Environmental Studies,Engineering as a well as Applied and Natural science.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Rector of the institution, Maj. Gen. E.G Ode said, NAITES is an institution that has weathered the storm and transmitted from Monotechnic to a Polytechnic and will soon birth the Nigerian Army University, Biu which is expected to start academic activities soon.
“It is expected that when the University finally kick off, NAITES would remain and serve as feeder to the new University.
The Rector said, presently, NAITES has 21 academic programmes that are streamlined into five schools out of which those that are matured for accreditation would fully be accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
“However those programme pending accreditation, it is our assurance
that the management is liaising with appropriate superior authority to ensure that NBTE requirements are met for them to be fully accredited.“ he said.
According to him, the institute will continue to focus on excellence in teaching ,research and service to society as enshrined in the institute’s vision which is to become a centre of excellence through the provision of quality education that will produce entrepreneur graduates.
“Let me clearly state that, NAITES has zero tolerance for cultism, stealing and any form of hooliganism.” He said
In a speech, Maj.Gen MA Efeovebokhan (RTD) Chairman Governing council said going with the quality of training the students will get, they would be transformed and take the country to greater heights.
Gov. Kashim Shetima of Borno State who was the special guest of honor at the occasion noted with satisfaction that, the school was growing rapidly.
Shetima who was represented by Umar Kadafur, Chairman Biu Local Government Council said they are aware of the institution plan to transform in to university and assured them of the state readiness to partner with them, urging the students to read hard and realize their dreams.
The 13th Matriculation was declared open on behalf of Lt Gen Tukur Brutai, Chief of Army Staff and Visitor to the school by Maj. Gen L.O. Adeosun Corps Commander Infantry.
