Nigeria: Kaduna State Electoral Body Gets Permanent Commissioner

Kaduna (Nigeria) – Kaduna State House of Assembly northwest of the country on Wednesday confirmed Ibrahim Sambo as Permanent Commissioner, State Independent Electoral commission (SIECOM).

This followed a letter from Governor Nasir  El-Rufai requesting the Assembly to approve the appointment of Sambo  to serve as Permanent Commissioner in the Commission.

The nominee appeared Wednesday before the House Members, where he was screened and confirmed.

During the screening exercise, the Speaker, Aminu Shagali, charged the newly appointee to conduct a free and fair local government election, which according to him, would be held within the next three months.

Moving a motion for the confirmation, the member representing Ikara constituency, Abdulwahad Idris said the nominee was a man of proven integrity, who has held so many positions in the state.

“He has proved himself a hardworking, honest and transparent person in view of this, Ibrahim Sambo as the commissioner, will give fair share in any election that will be conducted under his watch I therefore moved a motion that the nominee should be confirmed and take a bow and leave,” he stressed.

Responding, the nominee, Ibrahim Sambo assured the Assembly that he is going to work diligently to ensure credible elections in the local governments.

Sambo, born in 1960 hails from Ikara Local Govermnent Area and holds a Masters degree In National Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD).

He was once a permanent secretary, Ministry of Rural and Community Development.
