Kaduna: Worried by unabated highway armed robbery, abduction and cattle rustling, Birnin Gwari Emirate in Kaduna, Northwest of the country has called for immediate establishment of a full military formation in the area to curtail the menace.
The Emirate believes that the bandits are hiding in surrounding forests of Birnin Gwari in Kaduna state and bordering states of Zamfara, Katsina and Niger, especially the Kamuku and Kuyambana forests.
The call is contained in a communique issued at the of a Summit jointly organized by the Emirate Progressive Union as well as the Emirate and the Local Gov. Councils.
The Summit said the military should as a matter of urgency strengthen their aerial surveillance around the bandits’ hideouts.
Acknowledging the efforts of the state government, the Summit however wants more support for community policing, to encourage the people to provide intelligent reports on suspected movements around the area.
It also calls for support to vigilante groups with adequate logistics, while religious leaders should preach more on the dangers of social vices such as adultery, formication as well as homosexuality.
The security summit had as its theme “Prospect of Government and Community Cooperation in Addressing the Security Challenges in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area”.
It was attended by traditional rulers led by the Emir, Mallam Zubairu Jibril Maigwari ll, political and religious leaders, security agencies ,CSOs and transport unions.
AFRICA PRIME NEWS recalls that there have been reported cases of highway armed robbery, abductions and cattle rustling in the area during which hundreds of cattle were recovered by security operatives through joint operations.
