Gombe (Nigeria) – Gombe state government in northeast of the country has reiterated its commitment to procure tonnes of fertilizer and timely distribution to farmers in the state during dry season.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dahiru Buba Biri disclosed this while addressing the zonal meeting of All Farmers Association of Nigeria in Gombe.

He said Agriculture has been a major economy of the nation hence the urgent need to embrace farming in order to achieved the desired goal..

Mr. Biri further commended the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Bank of Agriculture for their initiatives toward supporting AFAN and its programmes.

The commissioner called on members of the association not to relent in putting their best in carrying out their programmes effectively.

Also speaking, National Vice President Arable crops, Auwal Tukur, said that in order to enhance the improvement of farm produce, the Association has made strategic plans with a view to sensitizing its members on yielding positive results in their businesses.

He said that necessary measure would be taken to enlighten its members on the need to utilize the country’s blessed  vast arable land where people could engage themselves in farming than depending on oil.

Mr. Tukur also encouraged the participants to discuss relevant issues that would bring development within the association.

He said putting heads together will enhance members’ capabilities in the performance of their responsibility.
