Gombe (Nigeria) — Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA), in northeast Nigeria, has called on media organisations to sensitize public on the importance of Immunisations.
Deputy Director in charge of Immunisation, Musa Ibrahim Kuna,, made the call in Gombe at the State level sensitisation and review meeting with media organisations in the state.
He noted that in spite of campaign all over the state, there were still cases of resistance in some areas, hence the need for media involvement in the campaign.
“We do not want a situation whereby we will use force on people, what we want is to accept it willingly and we are counting on you the media, sensitize the public before the next round of immunisation scheduled for Saturday,” he said.
He said since 2013 the state did not run out of stock, it had everything available, yet people are not coming to receive it.
“We have 501 Primary Care Health facilities out of which 483 were conducting routine immunisation, but people were not coming,” he said.
He appealed to parents to change their attitude to utilise what they have while it is still available.
“These donor agencies that were providing the vaccines for us free of charge may be no more in the country with time.
“Therefore it is good to make use of every single opportunity at our door steps,” he said
Responding, the media organisations promised to do everything humanly possible to ensure that people who were resisting start to embrace the facilities.
