Chairman, Family Health Advocates in Nigeria Initiative (FHANI), Shehu Mohammed Makarfi, has stressed the need for a closer collaboration between journalists and FHANI to have a society that is well informed on the benefits of child birth spacing/family planning.

He said that there was the need for people to be informed of what it takes to be involved in child spacing, pointing out that it is for the general good to the mother, child, father and the entire society.

Speaking in Kaduna, northwest Nigeria in discussions on survey conducted by Performance Monitoring and Accountability (PMA)2020 with journalists, he explained that the society needed to be properly educated and informed of all it takes for couples to fully appreciate family planning.

“With proper education and enlightenment, people will know that family planning is not against any religion but a process to enhance a healthy family.

“There are a lot of things that FHANI and the media, especially in the northern part of the country will do to further ensure that our people come to terms with the reality of life. We need to do the right to avoid regret our actions in the future,” he explained.

The discussion centered on round 4 survey results conducted by  in Kaduna State with a view to awakening the consciousness of people on the way forward to reducing maternal mortality, among other things.

The meeting was funded by Pathfinder International, a non-governmental organisation working on reproductive health in over 20 countries around the world.
