Gombe (Nigeria) — Nigerian Police says it has recorded 6 per cent decline in crime rate in the state, resulting from increased vigour in discharging its responsibility.
Speaking at the opening of a conference with Senior Police Officers of the Command on Tuesday, the State Police Commissioner, Austin Iwar, said the command recorded from January to June, 36 cases of armed robbery against 42 of last year, 8 rape cases against 13 last year, zero cases of terrorism, 250 theft against 256 last year, 5 cases of kidnapping against 10 last year and one communal case this year, the same with last year.
Mr. Iwar called on the people of Gombe State to support the police to adequately make communities safer, as this would go a long way in helping the command to reduce the number of unrepentant offenders and improve security and safety of the state.
He said the command in July 2017 conducted a review of the Social Crime Prevention Programme under the Youth Empowerment/Skills Acquisition Programme, which focused on the assessment of 43 beneficiaries, in order to ensure that the command remained on course.
Mr. Iwar also called on the people of Dukku Local Government Area of the State to ensure that they abide by the electoral laws to ensure a hitch-free re-election into the state legislature, which became vacant after the demise of Gambo Kabade in June.
He said the Command would deploy over one thousand personnel to maintain law and order during the election and after it.
