Kaduna (Nigeria) — Police in Kaduna, northwest Nigeria, Sunday goofed when they claimed an attack on Kaduna community occurred in a fulani settlement.

Saturday night unknown gunmen shot and killed one person, injuring five others in the said attack.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that, “The Police in Kaduna on Sunday confirmed that unknown gunmen attacked Zankan village, a Fulani settlement in Kaura Local Government of the state.”

A resident of Zankan, who chose to remain anonymous, told AFRICA PRIME NEWS that, “Zankan is in Marwa land, and is occupied by the Marwa people, not fulani; even though, there are few fulani who reside in the outskirts of the village.

“The incident occurred on Saturday around 8:30pm, when unknown gunmen came to Zankan village and opened fire on people – everyone ran away for a cover. I cannot tell you exactly how they came, whether they used bikes, or a car I do not know.”

But another villager, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, said “the gunmen came in a car from Ganawuri axis and carried out the attack, then fled through the same route they came from.”

Spokesman of the police in Kaduna, Aliyu Usman, had told NAN, “The dead and the injured persons have been taken to the nearest medical centre in Ganawuri town, Plateau State.”

He also told the News Agency, “We are trailing the suspects behind the attack, but so far, no arrest has been made. We are, however, optimistic that the additional police operatives deployed in the area will fish out the culprits very soon,” he said.
