Kaduna (Nigeria) — A Cameroonian military helicopter has crashed on Sunday, killing four army officers, among them, two senior officers; General Jacob Kodji, commander of the 4th Inter-Army Military Region (RMIA); Colonel Alphonse Kameni, commander of the 4th gendarmerie region; and two other members of the crew.
Reports say, the helicopter was returning from a supervision mission on the ground, as part of supervision on the fight against Boko Haram.
“We lost four men, including the General Jacob Kodji. They were on a mission in Waza Park as part of an operation to battle Boko Haram.” says Midjiyawa Bakari, Governor of Far North region in Cameroon.
The helicopter crashed in Bogo, Diamaré and the cause of the crash still remained unknown.
General Kodji was in charge of the operation launched against Boko Haram terrorism by Cameroon government.
Boko Haram has plagued Nigeria for 17 years and also threatened the relationship between Nigeria and Cameroon. The two countries (Nigeria and Cameroon) had to joined forces to fight the insurgency.
The terrorists have launched attacks in Cameroon, thus leading to Nigeria closing her Border from Cameroon for some time before the collaboration.
More than 20,000 people have died in the Boko Haram fight, with over 2 million others displaced.
