Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the terrorist attack of Monday morning at a Mosque in the University of Maiduguri in North-eastern Nigeria.

Twin bomb explosions hit the University. A Professor and four others were killed by the suicide bombers, while fifteen people were said to be injured in the attack.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, expressed the president’s sympathy and heartfelt condolences to the University Community, families of the victims, the government and people of the State.

“President Buhari believes that this appalling attack on a Revered place of worship and Ivory Tower shows that the perpetrators have no true understanding of Islam.

“Their despicable acts of terrorism are cowardly, criminal, unjustifiable and punishable before God Almighty and the laws of the land”.

While calling on Nigerians to be more vigilant even as the security agencies continue in the fight against remnants of insurgents, he reassured communities in Borno and other North-eastern part of the country of the administration’s commitment to ensure that terrorism never triumph over peace-loving Nigerians.

The President wished those injured in the attack a speedy and full recovery, and comfort for families of the dead, the statement noted.
