Kaduna (Nigeria) – A dismissed Police officer identified as Gambo Maina, has been arrested by the Kaduna state Police command for impersonation and involvement in some criminal acts in the state.
Maina confessed to newsmen that he had been impersonating in order to make ends meet; adding that, his dismissal in 2016 from the Nigeria Police Force was as a result of his involvement in homosexuality and rape.
Parading suspected criminals before newsmen in the Kaduna state Police Headquarters in north-western Nigeria, the state Commissioner of Police, Agyole Abeh, said, three armed robbery suspects have died during a shootout with police officers, one sustained injury and was arrested alive.
He said the incident occurred on Monday afternoon around Jere in Kagarko Local Government Area of the state, explaining that, the suspects were on their way for a robbery operation before the police intercepted them following credible information.
“They were arrested in Jere on their way to carry out their nefarious activities. We engaged them and three were shot dead, one was shot and arrested alive.”
He further added that, members of another robbery gang that specializes in city crimes were arrested; noting that they specialized in breaking into super markets and their operation was not only in Kaduna but Abuja, Jalingo and Makurdi.
“Also a one man syndicate who parades himself as police office was arrested. He defraud unsuspecting member of the public.
“Other suspect were arrested in Birnin Gwari area during a stop and search operation. Upon investigation, they confessed to committing series of arm robbery,” the commissioner stated.
Items recovered from the suspects include AK 47 rifles and their magazines, military camouflage, live ammunitions, police uniform, clothes, jewelries and accessories among other.
Abeh further assured Kaduna residents, Nigerians and foreigners of the command’s commitment to reducing crimes to it barest minimum even ahead of the March 8th diversion of the Abuja bound flights to the Kaduna International Airport.
