Nigeria: IGP Bemoans Attack On Nigerian Police, Says 128 Personnel killed In Three Months

ibrahim-idris-igpThe Nigeria Police Force has expressed dismay over the rate of killings of its personnel and destruction of Police assets in various Nigerian communities.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim K. Idris, in a statement signed by the Force spokesperson Don Awunah pointed out that, in the past three months, the Force has lost one hundred and twenty eight (128) personnel in various parts of the country in the course of discharging their statutory duties.

He said the recent cases in Dankamoji village in Maradu LGA of Zamfara state, Abagana in Anambra state and in Okrika waterways in Rivers state where personnel were killed, arms carted away, structures and equipment destroyed are cases in point.

The IGP further emphasized that, “These lines of duty resultant deaths, occasioned by unwarranted attacks by religious bigot, bandits, hoodlums and militants must be reversed and the trend halted.”

While expressing regrets over the loss of these personnel, he condoles with their families, assuring them of the Force’s support to cushion the effect of this irreparable loss, saying, “Their departure will certainly not be in vain.”

The Police Boss however urged other officers not to relent in their collective will to serve this country, irrespective of challenges, while the citizens should continue to assist the security agencies with relevant information which could help in fighting crimes.
