imageKaduna (Nigeria) — A family planning promotion organisation, Nigeria Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) is re-launching its weekly family planning radio programmes in Kaduna, Lagos and Oyo states, commencing 21st November, 2016.

The radio programme ran in the first phase of the NURHI project from 2009 – 2015.

A statement issued by the organisation says, the weekly programme are titled in local languages – Komai Nisan Jifa in Kaduna, Se’rigbo in Lagos, and Ireti Eda in Oyo – that is to say, the programme will be broadcast in Hausa in Kaduna, and Yoruba in Lagos and Oyo states.

Kaduna is located in northern Nigeria, while Lagos and Oyo in southwest of the country.

The radio programme “combine entertainment and education to encourage discussions around relationships and family life,” the statement says.

The drive of the programme is propelled by its leading demand generation campaign called, “Get It Together”.

“We want Nigerians to think of family planning as part of everyday life,” says Dr. Mojisola Odeku, NURHI Project Director.

“The Get It Together radio programs build on the success of our popular radio programs during NURHI I and the hit song “Get It Together,” featuring Paul ‘P Square’ Okoye and Tiwa Savage, with the aims of reaching people through music and entertainment, engaging them in discussion, and increasing awareness and demand for family planning in Nigeria.” She says.

The key focus of the programme is now captivating drama, which showcases everyday lives of people and their decision to plan their families, testimonials from satisfied users, religious leaders, service providers, artisans and so on.

The programme avails listeners the platform to speak directly with family planning experts to answer questions on air – it also presents them an opportunity to win prizes in weekly quizzes.

The Get it Together radio program is scheduled as follows:

Kaduna Radio Program: Komai Nisan Jifa.
On Kada AM and every Friday from 5:00—6:00 pm.
On Liberty FM and every Saturday 10:00— 11:00am.

Lagos Radio Program: Se’rigbo.
On Radio Lagos 107.5 FM and every Monday from 4:00—5:00 pm.

Oyo Radio Program: Ireti Eda.
On Amuludun 99.1 FM and every Monday from 3:00—4:00 pm.

“The ‘Get it Together’ Campaign which encourages all Nigerians to KNOW the facts about family planning, TALK to your partner and GO for family planning services. The programs show how real Nigerians can overcome challenges to be able to achieve their life goals.

“NURHI 2 has a network of family planning providers who are ready to provide friendly, appropriate, safe and confidential health services. Their locations can be recognized by the blue, yellow and orange puzzle piece logo with a sign that says ‘FP services available here’.” the statement says

NURHI is funded by Bill & Melinder Gates Foundation.
