Nigeria To Produce Documentary On Film Viewership Guidelines

imageJos (Nigeria) — The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) says it has concluded plans to commence its media campaign literacy project to ensure conformity to its viewership guidelines.

To this end, it will soon produce a documentary on film classification. Despite having existing classification, majority of the Nigerians, especially at the grass root are not aware of it, talk less of understanding same, this is because the country has no robust public enlightenment campaign that provides understanding of such classification to viewers.

North-Central Zonal Coordinator of the Board, Paul Ailewon, the Zonal Coordinator of NFVCB, North-Central said, the board will partner other bodies like the Media Ambassadors, and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on the project.

“The documentary which would be an enlightenment campaign for parents, guardians, children and the general public would portray the implications of not conforming to the guidelines for film and video viewership,” he said.

Ailewon said the had since embarked on visitation to establishments like schools, worship centres and NYSC Camps, to ensure people understand and conform to viewership standards.

“We have also visited media organisations like Unity FM Jos, and Plateau Radio Television among other, on their live programmes.

“This is to enlighten members of the public on the implication of not conforming to our viewership guidelines,” he said.
