Abuja (Nigeria) – Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has expressed optimism that Nigeria will emerge from the present economic downturn a stronger and more prosperous nation, saying, ‘what Nigeria is passing today, is a passing phase.’

He stated this when he received a team on courtesy visit from Huawei Technologies Co. Nig. Ltd, led by its Abuja Managing Director, Tank Liteng

According to the minister, developed countries of the world have at one time or the other witnessed such moments. He said, “Your country China has passed through it but emerged for reasons of hard work and resilience. Nigeria shall certainly weather this storm and emerge a stronger and more prosperous nation.”

A statement by the deputy director of press of the Ministry, Samuel Olowookere, noted that the Minister urged Huawei Technologies Co. Nig. Ltd to support the economic diversification efforts of the Federal Government, by deploying Information Communication Technology to the enhancement of Agricultural and Mining sectors, the critical area he said the nation can leverage on to boost its economy in view of the dwindling Oil price in international market.”

Ngige said, “we urge you to support the diversification efforts of the Federal Government by deploying information communication technology into agriculture and mining. These areas are largely untapped and we have a comparative economic advantage therein.

“Your assistance in these two sectors can help Nigeria generate additional revenue needed to reflate the economy.”

He further implored Huawei to impact necessary Information Communication Technology skills on youths who are largely unemploy.

Earlier in his remarks, the Abuja Managing Director of Huawei Technologies Co. Nig. Ltd, Tank Liteng, expressed the commitment of his company to the employment creation initiative of the Federal Government through human capital development of the Nigerian youths on information technology.
