Kaduna (Nigeria) –The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Kaduna state chapter, has decried the rate at which Northern Nigeria is losing its talents due to lack of investors in film and musical production in the region.
Chairperson of the Association, Queen Abueh, said on daily basis, talents from the region especially Kaduna moves towards Lagos because there are more markets for them there.
Abueh disclosed this to Africa Primes in an interview shortly after the body of Actors in the state conferred the Kaduna state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Garba Mohammed, its Patron.
According to Kaduna AGN, in recent times, lots of young people are embracing entertainment, as such; there is the need for the government and private investors to key into production because that would serve as a means of job creation and taking the youths off the streets.
Abueh pointed out that, when there are more producers and investors, it will yield better competition and results; as well as so much revenue to gain which can boost the economy of the region.
She said, “So far so good, we say Kudos to the producers we are having; but still, the level of production in the state is poor. We are growing in film making because we have large membership that can shoot up to 40 kinds of films or be on 40 locations on daily basis but lack the necessary support.”
“We have also met with the government to bring market for us in Kaduna state just like the film market in Onitcha and Alaba market in Lagos; we want our own film market so that jobs will be available for the youths instead of them hanging around and seen at ugly places – they will sell movies and see themselves also as stars.”
On piracy, she said, it a disease that is gradually going down, which could be eradicated if combine efforts are make by all stakeholders.
